Flexibility to water you garden morning or night

Effective 1 September 2010, Stage 2 water restrictions provide Melburnians with even
more flexibility and simplicity in watering their gardens.  Gardens can now be watered
from 6 - 8 am in the morning and 8 - 10 pm at night on your specified watering day.

For veggie gardeners or those with extra thirsty plants, you can now use a watering can,
bucket or hand held hose fitted with a trigger nozzle as needed - to help through the heat
of summer.

Remember lawns still can not be watered at any time with drinking water.

On Stage 2 water restrictions
  • Using a date-based approach:
    • Even and no-numbered properties can water plants on even dates
      e.g. 2nd, 4th, 6th, etc.
    • Odd-numbered properties can water plants on odd dates
      e.g. 1st, 3rd, 5th, etc.
    • Everyone can water on the 31st (within permitted times).
  • Plants can now be watered between 6 - 8 am and 8 - 10 pm on your watering days.
  • If someone in your household is 70 years or over you can use a manual watering
    system between 8 - 10 am instead of 6 - 8 am, and still between 8 - 10 pm on your
    specified watering days.
  • You can now wash your car at home using a bucket or a high pressure cleaning device.
You can not use a hose with a trigger nozzle.
  • You can still visit a water efficient commercial or mobile car wash* or use rainwater at home.
  • Lawns may not be watered at any time with drinking water
  • Rainwater and greywater can be used at any time

*Only commercial or mobile car washes which meet water efficient requirements - meaning they use 70 litres of drinking water or less per vehicle - can operate in metropolitan Melbourne.
