Vehicle washing

On Stage 2 water restrictions, can I wash my car?

Yes, on Stage 2 water restrictions, you can now wash you car at home, but only using a high pressure water cleaning device or a bucket filled from a tap.  A hand held hose with a trigger nozzle can not be used.

You can also wash your car by using a water efficient commercial or mobile car wash.  Only commercial or mobile car washes which meet water efficient requirements - meaning they use 70 litres of drinking water or less per vehicle - can operate in metropolitan Melbourne.

And of course you can wash your car at home if you are using an alternative source of water such as rainwater.

Is a high pressure water cleaning device considered equivalent to a hand held trigger hose during restrictions?

Where a high pressure water cleaning device is specified, a hand held hose fitted with a trigger nozzle is not considered to be equivalent and may not be used.

A high pressure water cleaning device is much more water efficient than a hose fitted with a trigger nozzle.

How do I know if a commercial car wash is an approved, water efficient car wash?

Only approved, water efficient commercial or mobile car washes may operate.  Look for signage that says 'Working within water restrictions under an approved Water Conservation Plan'.
