Bursts and Leaks

Attending to bursts and leaks is a high priority for our business - especially at a time when the community is making an enormous effort to reduce water usage.

Reducing the amount of our precious water wasted through leakage is important. If you see a leak or burst, you can help us by calling 13 2762. We will call you back to let you know when the work is done.

If you think you may have a leak at home you can follow some simple steps on how to detect for leaks. Once you've followed these steps, if you still suspect you have a leak, you should contact Yarra Valley Water on 13 1721.

We are committed to proactively reducing leakage and have invested $1 million in an emergency water maintenance strategy over the past financial year to ensure we respond quickly to pipe bursts and leaks over summer. This strategy includes:

  • Increased resources and equipment including five new trucks, two tipper trucks and four additional excavators to conduct emergency, on-site maintenance and repairs.

  • An increase in the number of specialised staff undertaking emergency work (including shift work) to ensure prompt responses to all reported leaks.

  • A 24-hour on call assessor, to determine the priority of bursts and leaks and appropriate courses of action. This means all significant bursts and leaks can be switched off by an assessor, rather than waiting for a field crew to arrive.

  • Continued investment in programmed works to reduce water loss from bursts and leaks, including proactive leak detection.
